Uzoka Ikenna Samuel has been recognised by the Total Health and Safety Skills Training Association (TSSTA) for his work in healthcare safety, laboratory quality and diagnostic precision.

The recognition highlights Samuel’s contribution to strengthening laboratory systems, promoting occupational safety and improving quality assurance practices in clinical diagnostics.

A medical laboratory scientist and healthcare professional, Samuel has built his career around laboratory quality management, biosafety, risk management and diagnostic error prevention. His TSSTA recognition, under membership ID TSSTA2023-DF201, reflects his focus on maintaining standards that support both patient safety and the wellbeing of healthcare workers.

Samuel’s professional development is backed by academic and professional training. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science from the University of Benin in 2014 before obtaining a Master’s degree in Public Health Epidemiology and Medical Statistics from the University of Lagos in 2019.

His professional credentials also include registration as a Biomedical Scientist with the UK Health and Care Professions Council in 2021, alongside professional affiliations with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria and the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria.

Since January 2020, Samuel has served as a Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist at Zankli Medical Services in Abuja, where he has worked within a 120-bed tertiary healthcare environment.

His responsibilities have included advanced molecular diagnostic procedures, including RT-PCR testing, as well as quality assurance investigations and Corrective Action and Preventive Action (CAPA) processes.

These activities are designed to identify and address diagnostic discrepancies while strengthening laboratory systems and reducing risks associated with clinical testing.

Before joining Zankli Medical Services, Samuel served as Laboratory Manager at Bio Rapid Diagnostics in Abuja. In that role, he oversaw laboratory operations, managed blood bank inventories and supported the training and development of medical laboratory personnel.

His professional development has also included specialised training in laboratory quality management. By 2022, he had completed certifications covering ISO 15189 medical laboratory quality requirements, haematology result validation and clinical blood bank quality management.

Beyond his clinical responsibilities, Samuel has participated in public health initiatives across Nigeria. His contributions have included supporting community health campaigns, including door-to-door malaria prevention activities and mental health advocacy programmes.

His TSSTA recognition therefore comes against the backdrop of several years of academic training, clinical practice and involvement in quality improvement within healthcare.
