Director General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Charles Ebuebu, has canvassed intelligence-led, data-driven and technologically sophisticated institution.
In his speech at the 34th anniversary of the commission, he observed, “today, content can originate in one jurisdiction, be distributed through another and reach Nigerian audiences through platforms headquartered elsewhere. Algorithms influence audiences, data shapes advertising and artificial intelligence transforms production.”
To him, “the regulator of the future cannot, therefore, be defined only by licensing stations and monitoring conventional transmissions. We must become an intelligence-led, data-driven and technologically sophisticated institution capable of understanding the industry in real time, anticipating trends and responding to Nigeria’s evolving media ecosystem.”
In addition, he said, a defining milestone is the National launch of Nigeria’s Digital Switch Over platform on 17 June 2026. DSO is not simply analogue-to-digital migration.
It is the foundation of a new broadcasting ecosystem designed to improve access, expand distribution, strengthen competition, create advertising opportunities, deepen audience intelligence and stimulate content production, investment and employment.
