• Police ban night political gatherings, highway blockades in Nasarawa

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the recruitment of relations of the officers killed in Kebbi State who applied to be enlisted into the force.

He also assured that the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) would not abandon the families of the 10 police officers who paid the supreme price when they intercepted bandits heading into Zamfara from the state on August 10, 2026.

He also announced that the backlog of benefits owed the families of deceased officers has been cleared on the directives of President Bola Tinubu.

Disu spoke at the memorial parade in honour of late Bala Buba, Inspector Ayiba Hassan, Auwal Sani, Jatau Solomon, Magaji Abdullahi, Stephen Simon, Yahuza Umaru, Momoh Jimoh, Ukpon Utuakon and Adams Abdullkareem, who were members of the Special Intervention Squad killed by bandits.

The IGP described the deceased officers as fallen heroes and committed officers who did not abandon their duty posts as cowards but died in the line of duty as gallant officers.

According to him, it was an immense pride to honour them, adding that their sacrifice was not in vain, as 17 of the suspected bandits were neutralised and four motorcycles belonging to the attackers were destroyed.

“Behind every fallen officer is a family that has lost a husband, father, son, brother or loved one. To the families of our fallen heroes, I extend, on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force, my deepest condolences,” he said.

“We grieve with you, we stand with you, and we will not abandon you. The force remains committed to supporting you and ensuring that the sacrifice of your loved ones is never forgotten.”

He further urged Nigerians to remember these 10 officers and the thousands of police personnel who continue to make similar sacrifices across the country.

Meanwhile, the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, has warned political parties and their supporters against holding night gatherings and blocking major highways, saying such activities could pose serious security threats ahead of the state governorship election.

Shetima gave the warning yesterday in Lafia during a stakeholders’ meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and other political parties in the state.

Consequently, he directed all political parties to notify the police ahead of rallies, processions and other major gatherings to enable the command to deploy adequate security and prevent clashes.

He also warned political actors against destroying or defacing opposition-party campaign billboards and posters, saying such actions could provoke avoidable crises.
