The Nigerian Army has alerted the public to attempt to breach its official X (formerly Twitter) account, saying that it is actively responding to it.
A statement by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, said the incident, which occurred at about 5pm on Saturday, 29 August 2026, is being treated as a cybersecurity breach.
The statement said that immediate technical and protective measures were being activated to secure the account, prevent further unauthorised access and safeguard the integrity of information disseminated through the platform.
“The Nigerian Army assures members of the public, the media and other stakeholders that appropriate measures are underway to fully secure the affected account and restore exclusive administrative control.
“In the interim, the public is advised to exercise caution and disregard any suspicious, unauthorised, misleading or unverified content emanating from the affected account, as such content does not represent the official position of the Nigerian Army.”
