An eight-year-old girl in Calabar, Cross River State, has been placed under medical care after she was allegedly sexually assaulted by a security guard who reportedly lured her to his residence with a promise of money.
 
The incident, which reportedly occurred along Tinapa Road, came to light after the girl’s mother alerted the police on August 29, 2026.
 
Following the complaint, operatives of the Cross River State Police Command arrested the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Ndifreke Godwin.
 
The command said preliminary investigations indicated that Godwin allegedly lured the child to his residence before sexually assaulting her.
 
The police subsequently issued the girl a medical form for examination and necessary treatment as investigations into the allegation commenced.
 
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
 
Confirming the arrest, the command said the suspect would be accorded due process, adding that appropriate legal action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.

The incident has renewed concerns about the vulnerability of children and the need for adults and communities to remain vigilant about their safety.
 
The police urged the public to promptly report suspected cases involving the abuse or exploitation of children to the appropriate authorities.
