The Bauchi State Police command, has nabbed two suspected cattle rustlers with the recovery of no fewer than 103 stolen cows in the Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.

The command said two livestock owners from Yalo village reported the rustling of 103 of their cows to the police on August 6, 2026.

In a statement yesterday, SP Nafiu Habib disclosed that the 103 cattle were rustled by armed criminals

The two complainants told the police investigators that the animals were rustled from the Yankari Forest in July 2026.

Acting on the report, police operatives traced three of the missing cattle to Mararaban Liman Katagum.

Habib explained that the cattle were eventually identified by the owners, leading to the arrest of two suspects with the assistance from a local traditional leader of Alkaleri

The suspects were identified as Abdullahi Adamu, 26, and Muktashir Idris, 20, both residents of Jarmai Village in Plateau state.

Habib said the suspects were taken into custody on August 7 for further investigation..

During interrogation, Idris allegedly told investigators that he was sent by a man identified as Alaba to sell the cattle.

The command said efforts were ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect mentioned in the investigation.

The police Investigators also recovered the sim of ₦400,000 allegedly linked to an attempt to influence the handling of the case.

According to Habib, the recovered money was surrendered after information emerged that it had been sent to compromise the investigation of the rustled cattle.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation,” he said .

Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu directed the transfer of the case to the State”s Criminal Investigatiob Department (SCID) for further inquiries.

He said the suspects would be charged to court if sufficient evidence is established at the conclusion of investigations.
