A non-governmental organisation, the Distinct Advocacy for Youth Empowerment and Healthier Society (DAYEHS) has paid the medical bills of indigent patients at the State Hospital, Asubiaro, Osogbo, capital of Osun State.

The NGO visited the hospital as part of its ongoing humanitarian initiatives and offered the financial assistance to help ease the burden of medical treatment and other essential needs.

During the outreach, approximately ₦250,000 was distributed among six vulnerable patients, with the amount allocated according to the individual circumstances and needs of each patient, including a pregnant woman with severe Hyperemesis gravidarum case in the hospital.

Speaking during the outreach, the Director-General of DAYEHS, Nathaniel Fawamide, explained that the hospital humanitarian outreach was designed to reach patients who are experiencing serious financial difficulties and are struggling to cope with essential medications, treatment and feeding while receiving care in the hospital.

He emphasised, “Achievement in life is not measured by how much wealth we accumulate, but by how many lives we are able to touch and how much positive impact we make in society.”

Amb. Fawamide called on well-meaning individuals, organisations and other stakeholders to look beyond personal achievements and find meaningful ways to contribute to the wellbeing of vulnerable members of society.

He further stressed that the responsibility of building a better society should not be left entirely to government, noting that everyone has a collective responsibility to contribute to societal development and leave behind a legacy of positive impact.

He disclosed that DAYEHS had also established a working arrangement with medical personnel to enable the organisation to receive information whenever there are indigent patients who require urgent humanitarian assistance, subject to the organisation’s capacity.

The Chief Medical Consultant in charge of the State Hospital, Dr. Rafiu Opawole, appreciated DAYEHS for the gesture and prayed for God’s continued blessing upon the organisation and its members.

Other members of the hospital management and nursing team, including Mrs. Irinnoye, DDNS, Male Ward; Mrs. Abdumajeed Basirat at, Chief Nursing Officer; and Mrs. Adelugba, Assistant Director, Nursing Services, commended the intervention, describing it as timely and meaningful.

They particularly noted that some of the beneficiaries were experiencing severe financial challenges in meeting the cost of their medications and treatment, making the support especially valuable at this critical period.
