Green Energy International Limited has been named energy company of the decade at the Daily Times of Nigeria Centenary Awards, following the firm’s recognition for its impact on the country’s oil and gas sector over the past ten years.

The award was presented during a ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of Nigeria’s oldest newspaper, which began publication in 1926 and has served as a chronicle of the country’s political, economic, social, and cultural evolution throughout a century of nationhood.

Green Energy International secured the accolade following what organizers described as an overwhelming nomination process, with the company emerging as the highest-ranked energy firm based on public voting and stakeholder assessments.

The company’s most notable achievement has been the construction of Nigeria’s first indigenous crude oil onshore terminal, a landmark development that ended five decades of complete reliance on terminals built and operated by multinational oil corporations.

The facility, located at the Otakikpo Marginal Field in the Andoni local government area of Rivers State, represents a significant milestone in the country’s quest for local content development in the petroleum industry.

Beyond its technical accomplishments, the company was particularly distinguished for its commitment to local community engagement and development initiatives in its host communities. Industry observers have noted that Green Energy’s approach to community relations has set a benchmark for other operators in the Niger Delta region.

Bolaji Okusaga, Chairman of the DTN@100 Heroes Awards Council, confirmed that the selection process was rigorous and transparent, stressing that “Following an extensive nomination and public voting process, your company received the highest number of votes in this award category.

“The Times Heroes Award Council and other key stakeholders subsequently confirmed your company’s selection in recognition of your contribution to national development.”

The award ceremony, which drew prominent figures from across Nigeria’s political and business spectrum, saw the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, personally present the honor to Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Green Energy International Limited.

The traditional ruler described Adegbulugbe as a pride of Yoruba land and Nigeria as a whole.

The monarch urged the company’s leadership to continue playing its part in ensuring a brighter future for both the oil and gas industry and the country at large.

In his acceptance speech, Adegbulugbe attributed the company’s success to team spirit and the dedication of management and other stakeholders.

He commended President Bola Tinubu for providing the required enabling environment for the sector to thrive, noting that the company has contributed to the increased crude production in the country.

The Chairman expressed gratitude to the Board, Management, and Organizing Committee of the Daily Times Nigeria @100 Celebration, the Times Heroes Award Council, and all Nigerians who supported the nomination.

He emphasized that the honor reflects the company’s dedication to promoting efficient service delivery and its consideration for the future of the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.

The centenary celebration also honored other distinguished Nigerians, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and former President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.
