The Ogun State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with separate cases of market shop breaking and burglary in the Ado-Odo area of the state, recovering stolen food items and other valuables.

Among those arrested are four teenagers who allegedly confessed to participating in multiple shop break-ins in the area.

The command, in a statement issued by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, said the first incident occurred at about 3:30 a.m. on September 2, 2026, following a report by concerned community members.

According to him, “a watchman had observed suspicious movements inside a market stall, prompting the immediate mobilisation of police patrol teams to the scene.”

The officers reportedly arrested two teenagers, 15-year-old Lateef Kalid and 16-year-old Kareem Jamal, inside the shop, where stolen foodstuffs and other items were recovered.

The image maker further said that interrogation of the suspects led to the arrest of 14-year-old Sofiu Alabi, who allegedly admitted to providing the key used to gain access to the shop.

The three suspects have since been charged to court, according to the command.

In a related development on September 4, local security operatives of the So-Safe Corps apprehended two other teenagers, 16-year-old Taofik Abioro and 15-year-old Ogundele Monday, and handed them over to police detectives.

Opeyemi noted that preliminary interrogation showed that the suspects confessed to participating in multiple shop burglaries across Ado-Odo.

He added that subsequent searches of their premises led to the recovery of additional stolen items.

The police explained that the case had been transferred for further investigation, while efforts were ongoing to track down an accomplice who remains at large.

The Commissioner of Police,
Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended officers of the Ado-Odo Division for their swift response and praised the So-Safe Corps and members of the community for their cooperation with the police.

Ojajuni stressed that sustained collaboration among security agencies, community members and other stakeholders was crucial to disrupting criminal networks.

He also urged parents, guardians and community leaders to exercise closer supervision over young people to prevent them from being drawn into criminal activities.

The commissioner further advised business owners to strengthen basic security around their premises and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies.
