Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has received a boost following the defection of a prominent African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Alhaji Mohammed Danjuma, popularly known as Garkuwa Babba.

Danjuma, a former ADC aspirant for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency and National Chairman of the ADC House of Representatives Aspirants Forum, formally defected to the APC and handed over his political structure to the party on Saturday.

He announced his defection during a meeting with Gombe State Governor and leader of the APC in the state, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, at the Gombe Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
The governor received Danjuma alongside the APC governorship candidate in Gombe State, Dr Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna, and a party chieftain, Engr Aliyu Mohammed Combat.

Danjuma said he decided to join the APC to support Gwamna’s governorship ambition, pledging to mobilise his grassroots network for the candidate and other APC flagbearers in the 2027 elections.

“I am handing over my structure to the APC and I pledge my total commitment to work for the victory of Dr Jamilu Gwamna and all our candidates. We will begin immediate mass mobilisation across Gombe State,” he said.

Danjuma, described as one of the key pillars of the ADC in Gombe, attributed his decision to Governor Yahaya’s “sterling leadership, performance and development record”.
He said the governor’s achievements had strengthened public confidence in the APC and positioned the party as the preferred platform for those committed to the development of Gombe State.

According to him, his defection was a deliberate decision to align with what he described as a development-oriented leadership and contribute to sustaining the gains recorded under the Yahaya administration.

Receiving the former ADC chieftain, Governor Yahaya described the defection as “a significant boost” to the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building an inclusive and united party, saying Danjuma’s experience, political network and grassroots reach would be valuable to the APC and its candidates.

The governor urged party members to maintain unity and cohesion, stressing that the strength of the APC lay in its ability to accommodate diverse interests while pursuing a common commitment to peace and stability.
