Nigeria and Indonesia are set to strengthen bilateral cooperation across key sectors including oil and gas, energy, agriculture, critical minerals, education and maritime security.

The development followed a meeting between Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Arief Havas Oegroseno, alongside his delegation, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a statement shared on her official X handle, Odumegwu-Ojukwu said the meeting provided an opportunity for both countries to renew their longstanding relationship.

“Pleased to receive in audience the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Ambassador Arief Havas Oegroseno and his delegation at our Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“This was an opportunity to renew the longstanding cordial relations between our two countries.

“We discussed the potential for enhanced cooperation in oil and gas, energy security, critical minerals development, agriculture, manufacturing, technical cooperation, educational exchanges, counter-terrorism, de-radicalisation, intelligence sharing and maritime security.

“We also reaffirmed the commitment of our two nations, to deepening our bilateral relations, promoting understanding and enhancing collaboration on issues of global significance at multilateral levels.”

The meeting signals a renewed push by Nigeria and Indonesia to expand cooperation beyond diplomatic relations, with both countries exploring opportunities in strategic economic, security and development sectors.
