A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Chief Niyi Aborisade, has insisted that Dr. Gbemileke Alagbe ‘Eleniyan’ won the party’s governorship primary held on May 22, 2026, saying the matter is already before the court.
Aborisade, in a statement on Tuesday, said the list of governorship and deputy governorship candidates recently published by the ADC did not reflect the situation on the ground, particularly in Oyo State.
It would be recalled that Alagbe had chosen Aborisade as his running mate. However, Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke’s name is on the list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Reacting to the list, Aborisade maintained that Alagbe emerged as the winner of the recognised primary election and subsequently selected him as his running mate.
According to Aborisade, he himself came second in the primary election, adding that Alagbe had also obtained a Certified True Copy (CTC) of the relevant documents.
Aborisade said the faction was therefore surprised when the INEC published the name of Oloye Adegoke as the party’s governorship candidate for Oyo State.
Aborisade said Alagbe and his supporters had approached the court to seek redress.
He expressed confidence that the judiciary would resolve the dispute and recognise what he described as the legitimate outcome of the May 22 primary.
Aborisade appealed to members and supporters of the party to remain calm while the legal process continued, assuring them that the faction would soon commence its campaign ahead of the 2027 election.
He said: “We are appealing to all our members and our supporters to remain calm and that we will soon be on the ballot and the positive change that we are promising you will become a reality.
“We will start our campaign very soon and we shall be victorious in the coming election in 2027.”
Aborisade urged ADC members and supporters to remain committed to the party’s political project, declaring: “ADC, arise and shine, for your light has come.”
