The 459-page book, chronicling the cultural heritage of the ancient Borno Empire was unveiled on Tuesday, in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital..

The book, titled: “Les Sommets Kanem-Bornou: vers une unité retrouvée et un destin commun (The Kanem-Bornu Summits: Towards Renewed Unity and a Shared Destiny)”, was presented to journalists at a press briefing held in Maiduguri.

Special Adviser to the Borno State governor on Culture and Regional Integration, Alhaji Hasan Zannah said the book drew inspirations from rhe two Kanem-Bornu Summits convened previously in Maiduguri.

He stressed that the Kanem-Bornu Kingdom transcends the present Borno and Yobe states, but extends to parts of neighbouring Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Sudan.

He added that the French version targets people especially in Francophone speaking countries

He further disclosed: “The English translation will be available for the English-speakers as soon as it is on the various social media platforms in the country.

The author, a Chadian scholar, Abubakar Nour, said the book was written to connect the past to the present to shape the future of the people. He said no society can progress without its people knowing their history.

He reaffirmed that a people without memory is a people without a future.

“This book was born from a conviction: a people cannot build a common future if it loses the memory of its common past,” he said.

He said the history of Kanem-Bornu is not mere a history for rememberance but a heritage capable of bringing people together. He maintained it is for strengthening the people’s identity and inspiring a new vision of the future.
