The three days security lockdown of Awka the Anambra State capital Thursday afternoon eased down with the arrival, tour and departure of Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Mrs Tinubu whose aircraft touched down at the Chinua Achebe International Airport, Umueri, at about 11:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Sept 10,2026 visited Anambra as part of face to face meeting with women groups, especially the vulnerable and those in need of succour.
She was received at the airport by Gov Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Dr Nonye with many top State government functionaries and key Stakeholders in Anambra State.
The nation’s First Lady used the visit to launch the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East zone in Anambra and kicked-off of statewide distribution of palliative packages and empowerment programme.
Mrs Tinubu also visited the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, where she inaugurated the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) ICT Experience Centre.
Heightened Security
Meanwhile, no fewer than 500 Security operatives have cordoned Dr Alex Ekwueme square in Awka, waiting for the arrival of the first Lady.
At the Dr Ekwueme square, materials for the empowerment were displayed, including sewing machines, refrigerators, gas cookers and many cartons of assorted palliative materials that Mrs Tinubu distributed to Anambra women.
For past three days and nights, security operatives kept vigil at strategic entry points in Awka particularly along the Awka-Onitsha-Enugu highway.
It was tighter around the Arroma area down the popular Dr Alex Ekwueme square where the palliatives were displayed for distribution.
Citizens of the State from various parts and Council areas flooded the arena with colourful tags.
