Wigwe University has announced the reconstitution of its Governing Council with the appointment of five distinguished academics and professionals to the existing Council.

The development marks an important milestone in the University’s continuing institutional development and its ambition to emerge as a globally recognised centre of excellence in higher education.

Chairman, Board of Trustees, Wigwe University, Professor Fabian Ajogwu stated this in a release.

According to him, the newly reconstituted Governing Council will still be chaired by Justice Amina Augie, JSC (Rtd.), as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council. Joining the existing members of Council are Professor Francis Egbokhare, Professor Uchenna Udeani, Professor LeRoy Edozien, Dr Ini Abimbola, and Mrs Omotayo Ikotun.

The new members bring to the Council a wealth of experience spanning higher education, academic leadership, institutional governance, professional practice, strategic management, and organisational development. Their appointment further strengthens the University’s governance architecture and reflects its commitment to excellence, integrity, innovation, accountability, and global engagement.

Drawing on their diverse expertise and extensive professional experience, the reconstituted Council will provide strategic oversight and guidance as Wigwe University advances its priorities in academic excellence, institutional growth, research and innovation, student development and international engagement.

The reconstitution comes at a pivotal stage in Wigwe University’s evolution. Commenting on the reconstitution, the university leadership expressed confidence in the calibre and breadth of experience of the new Council members and their capacity to contribute meaningfully to the university’s continued transformation. The reconstituted Council will work closely with the university’s leadership and other key stakeholders to provide strategic direction, strengthen governance, and ensure that Wigwe University continues to set ambitious standards for quality, innovation and impact in higher education.

The University’s Board of Trustees also expressed profound appreciation and gratitude to Mr Dapo Olagunju and Mr Gbenga Oyebode, who have served on the Governing Council, for their distinguished service and valuable contributions to the University’s growth and development.
