The Oyo State Police Command, in partnership with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), has launched a Safe School initiative aimed at strengthening security around schools and creating a safer learning environment across the state.

The initiative, which coincided with the 42nd anniversary celebration of the PCRC in Oyo State, is part of the command’s renewed efforts to enhance school safety as schools resume for the new academic session.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on September 11, 2026.
The command said the initiative would focus on increased police visibility around schools, protection of pupils, students, teachers and other school personnel, safeguarding of school infrastructure, improved community-based intelligence gathering and prompt response to emerging security threats.

The launch was attended by the National Chairman of the PCRC, Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, the Oyo State PCRC Chairperson and other stakeholders, underscoring the commitment of the Police and community stakeholders to strengthening security in and around schools.
The command said it was also deepening engagement with the PCRC Safe School Club, school proprietors, administrators, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), teachers, parents and students to establish a collaborative security framework for early identification, reporting and prevention of threats.

It noted that sustainable school safety required collective responsibility, adding that continuous engagement with stakeholders remained crucial to identifying security concerns, strengthening preventive measures and ensuring that credible information reached the Police early enough for intervention.
Personnel deployed for school protection, according to the command, had been directed to remain vigilant, maintain close contact with school communities and respond promptly to credible security information.

The command said it would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, strategic community engagement and proactive security measures to anticipate and prevent threats to schools and their occupants.
It urged school proprietors, administrators, teachers, parents, students and members of the public to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious persons, vehicles, movements or activities around schools.
The command particularly urged residents to embrace the message, “See Something, Say Something,” stressing that early reporting could provide actionable intelligence needed to prevent security incidents before they occurred.
It assured residents of its commitment to working with the PCRC and other stakeholders to create a safe, secure, and conducive environment for learning across the state.
