Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Chisco Group Nigeria Limited, Chief Chidi Anyaegbu, has donated two Mercedes-Benz buses to the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ikoyi, Lagos, as part of activities marking his 70th birthday.

According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, SC Osho Onimisi Joseph, Anyaegbu made the donation on Saturday during a visit to the custodial centre accompanied by his wife, Ngozi Anyaegbu; his children; members of Chisco Group’s management team; family members; friends; and vicars from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Ikoyi.

Senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Lagos State Command, were also present at the presentation.

Assistant Controller-General of Corrections in charge of Zone A, Raphael Ogaba Unazi, represented the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, at the event.

Receiving the delegation, the Controller of Corrections, Lagos State Command, Daramola George, thanked Anyaegbu and Chisco Group for supporting the Service.

George said the buses would improve mobility at the Ikoyi facility and assist officers in carrying out official responsibilities.

He also called for greater collaboration between the Nigerian Correctional Service, corporate organisations and other stakeholders in addressing some of the operational and welfare needs of correctional facilities.

Speaking at the presentation, Anyaegbu said the donation was motivated by his desire to give back to society and support public institutions.

He was accompanied by his son, Obinna Kingsley Anyaegbu, who the Correctional Service said has previously supported initiatives involving the Ikoyi Custodial Centre.

The NCoS said the family’s engagement with the facility has included support for initiatives connected with conditions at the centre and correctional administration.

The event also featured goodwill messages and prayers from vicars of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Ikoyi, as Anyaegbu’s family, friends and associates joined him in marking his 70th birthday.

Officer in Charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ikoyi, Julius Ogueri, thanked Anyaegbu and his family for the donation.

Ogueri described the buses as an important addition to the facility’s operational resources and wished the Chisco Group founder good health as he marked the milestone.

The Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service said partnerships with individuals and corporate organisations could help strengthen correctional administration and support rehabilitation and reintegration efforts.
