Hon. Sunshine Anifowose has challenged the Peoples Democratic Party’s former Deputy Governorship candidate, Deji Ogunsakin, to produce evidence of his alleged financial contributions to the party’s campaign for the June 20, 2026, Ekiti State governorship election.

Anifowose said he stood by his earlier claim that Ogunsakin did not contribute any personal money to the election, insisting that Ogunsakin was appointed as the Deputy Governorship candidate and that the campaign resources he used were provided by the governorship candidate, Dr Wole Oluyede.

The challenge followed a claim by the PDP Chairman in Ado-Ekiti Local Government, Hon. Femi Odeyemi, that Ogunsakin contributed N3m towards the Ado-Ekiti Local Government rally and personally financed campaign activities within the Ado-Ekiti metropolis.

But Anifowose dismissed the claim and challenged Ogunsakin to substantiate it with documentary evidence.

“If Deji Ogunsakin claims that he spent his personal money on the election, let him come out with the evidence.

“Let him produce the transactions, transfers, receipts or any other evidence showing the money he personally spent on the campaign. I am also prepared to come out with the transaction evidence showing the funds Dr Wole Oluyede released to him throughout the campaign period.

“Let the people see both sides. I am not afraid of the facts, and I believe he should not be afraid of the facts either.”

Anifowose maintained that the issue was not about whether Ogunsakin participated in the campaign, but whether he personally financed any of the activities as now being claimed.

He said the earlier demand for accountability by PDP leaders and stakeholders in Ado-Ekiti was based on the specific responsibilities allegedly assigned to Ogunsakin during the campaign.

According to him, the stakeholders were asking for an account of funds allegedly released for party agents, canvassers, mobilisation, ward activities, transportation, fuelling and other campaign logistics.

Anifowose said the response from Odeyemi had failed to answer the central question.

“The question is simple: if he says he spent his personal money, let him show the evidence. I will equally show the evidence of the money Dr Oluyede gave him.

“We can put the transactions side by side and allow the people to judge the facts for themselves,” he said.

He also rejected the suggestion that the demand for accountability was coming from Oluyede.

According to Anifowose, the issue was raised by PDP leaders and stakeholders in Ado-Ekiti who participated in the campaign and were concerned about how resources meant for particular election assignments were utilised.

“Dr Oluyede did not ask them to account. It was Ado-Ekiti PDP leaders who raised the issue.

“So they should stop bringing Oluyede into it. If they say Ogunsakin spent his own money, let them provide the evidence. If they say money was released to him for specific purposes, then let them also explain what happened to those funds,” Anifowose said.

He further questioned the claim that Ogunsakin “single-handedly financed” campaign activities in Ado-Ekiti.

Anifowose said the claim was too serious to be made without documentary evidence.

“If he claims he single-handedly financed the campaign in Ado-Ekiti, then let him tell us exactly how much he spent, where he spent it and provide the transactions.

“I am ready to present the transactions showing the money that came from Dr Oluyede to him throughout the campaign. Let us compare the records,” he said.

Anifowose also returned to the issue of election-day agents, alleging that about 80 per cent of polling units in Ado-Ekiti did not have PDP agents or representatives.

He said the situation raised legitimate questions about funds allegedly released for agents and other election-day logistics.

“If money was released for agents, why did we have so many polling units without PDP representatives on election day?

“That is one of the reasons the stakeholders asked questions. Nobody is fighting anybody. We are asking for accountability,” he said.

Anifowose insisted that his position remained unchanged, saying Ogunsakin should provide evidence to support the claim that he personally financed any part of the campaign.

He added that he was equally prepared to provide documentary evidence of funds allegedly released to Ogunsakin by Oluyede.

“I am not asking him to make explanations based on words. I am asking for evidence, and I am prepared to provide evidence too.

“If he says he contributed N3m, let him show the transaction. If he says he financed campaign activities across Ado-Ekiti, let him show the transactions.

“Then I will show the transactions of the funds Dr Oluyede gave him during the campaign period. Let the facts speak,” Anifowose stated.

The controversy follows the meeting of more than 1,000 PDP members and stakeholders drawn from all 13 wards of Ado-Ekiti Local Government, where the stakeholders demanded accountability over campaign resources and reaffirmed their support for Oluyede and Anifowose.

Anifowose said the stakeholders remained interested in strengthening accountability within the party and would not allow the original issues raised at the meeting to be diverted into a personal disagreement between political actors.
