A coalition of parents, guardians and the communities in Mussa and Lassa towns of Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno state, have begged the Federal Government to rescue their abducted school children in six days.

 They threatening to stage a peaceful protest at the Presidential Villa in Abuja if the victims continue to remain in captivity of the insurgents in the Sambisa Forest

The deadline demand was made during a protest by the affected parents and community members on Sunday in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The coalition mwmbers appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and secure the immediate release of the children.

Chairman of the Mussa Parents of Abductees, Shuibu Umaru, questioned why children abducted in Oyo State were rescued while those from Mussa and Lassa remained in captivity.

“Why did you rescue the Oyo abducted children and neglect ours? We too are Nigerians. We are citizens of this country. The President needs to do everything possible to rescue our children,” Umaru told the Nigerian Tribune,” he said.

He added that the parents had given the government six days to rescue the children, warning that they would take their protest to the Presidential Villa if the deadline was not met.

“We are giving you six days to rescue our children; otherwise, we will stage a big protest at the Presidential Villa gate in Abuja,” he said.

“We will not agree. Let the government rescue our children. We want this message to reach the President. Bring back our children; we need our children,” Umaru further stated.

A member representing Askira/Uba and Hawul Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Dr Midala Usman Balami, said: “The abducted  children had been in captivity since 15 May 2026 and called on the Federal and Borno State governments to deploy all available resources to rescue them.

“These children have been there for more than 130 days,” Balami said, adding that he had moved a motion in the National Assembly and continued to follow up on the matter.

“A week back, I organised a press conference with the intention of bringing the issue to the limelight, and we are talking with one voice: rescue our children.”

Balami said the children of Mussa and Lassa wards had suffered for too long and should be rescued and reunited with their families.

“The children of Mussa and Lassa wards have suffered for too long. They should be rescued and brought back to their families safely,” he said.

He called for collaboration between the Federal and state governments, saying the matter concerned the lives of innocent citizens.

“We are talking about 44 children abducted in Mussa Ward, 36 children abducted in Lassa, and 36 travellers abducted on Buratai Road,” Balami said.

He urged President Tinubu to fulfil his constitutional responsibility by ensuring the rescue of the abducted children.

Umaru, who said the families could no longer remain silent over the prolonged captivity, also drew a comparison with the Oyo abductions.

“Our children were abducted at the same time as those of Oyo. Oyo children were rescued, but ours remain in captivity,” he added..

He restated the six-day ultimatum, warning that the parents would stage a bigger protest at the Presidential Villa if the government failed to rescue the children within the period.”
