The Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos, Most Rev’d Alfred Martins has called on the Catholic faithful to build a strong Catholic faith within their families.

He made the call during the grand finale of Catholic Faith Family Project held recently in Lagos.

“It is what is going on in the family that reflects in the society, that is why we need to call the attention of the parents to the fact that it is their primary responsibility to take care and bring up their children,” he said.

The Archbishop emphasised the importance of strengthening the Catholic faith within the family circle, adding that, the school could help, likewise the church but the family plays the major role in teaching children good values and helping them to grow in faith.

The initiative of the project, according to him, was designed to deepen the knowledge of the Catholic faith, while encouraging families to learn and practice the faith together.

In his welcome address, the Grand President, Brig. Gen. PaulinusNwankwo urged the parents to build their families on the study of sacred scripture and Catholic teachings.

He said: “It is fundamentally an evangelisation and faith-building initiative. Our objective is to encourage our families to study the Catholic faith, understand sacred scripture and church teachings, appreciate our traditions and become confident witness of Christ wherever the found themselves.”

Nwankwo, who was happy to see regions being represented at the event by families, encouraged them to value Catechism as something to memorise for examinations or competitions.

He stressed that the knowledge they acquired should become a foundation for the way they live their lives, make decisions, relate with others and serve God.

More than 120 Catholic families participated in the 2026 Archbishop Alfred Adewale Martins Catholic Family Project Quiz, with four families making it to the grand finale.

The family from Lekki Region, Mr and Mrs Tobi Olalusi emerged the winner and received their grand prize of 2017 Toyota Corolla car.

While cash prizes and generators were given to other runner-up.

The couple expressed their joy/excitement and thanked the organisers, saying, “we are so happy. We thank God and the organisers and pray that God will honour them mightily in Jesus’ name.”
