The Ogun State Police Command says it arrested 11 suspects and recovered three firearms, 25 ATM cards and two suspected stolen vehicles during a series of operations across the state over an 11-day period.

In a statement made available  by the  command  Police Public  Relations Officer,DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said the operations also resulted in the recovery of several mobile phones and electrical materials, while eight vehicles were impounded for allegedly obstructing traffic.

Babaseyi  disclosed that the two suspects, Rasheed Abdul and Saula Meshinoye, were arrested after detectives attached to the Owode Egba division recovered a stolen commercial TVS motorcycle at Mokoloki village on 17 September.

 The motorcycle had reportedly been stolen before a complaint was lodged on 16 September. A third suspect, identified as Saheed, remains at large.

In a separate operation on 19 September, officers from Olorunda division intercepted three people on Ayetoro Road who were allegedly transporting stolen electrical materials on a motorcycle.

However, Mutiu Gafar, 19, and Fatai Obasanmi, 37, were arrested, while a third suspect, identified as Tosin, escaped.

The command image maker noted that  the recovered items included bundles of electrical wiring, a change-over electrical box and a circuit breaker box allegedly stolen from a nearby residence.

He further said its special weapons and tactics team also arrested three men – Olamide Ayandele, 30, Tope Samuel, 40, and Ayo Peter Ojo, 30 – on 21 September after intercepting an unregistered tricycle and a TVS motorcycle in Dalemo, Ota.

Police said preliminary investigations linked the suspects to alleged vehicle theft around the Ijoko axis and that efforts were under way to identify other people who may have been involved.

The following day, officers at Igbesa division arrested Ameachine Anthony, 45, over an alleged N2.5m fraud and recovered 25 ATM cards and several mobile phones.

According to the police, preliminary investigations suggested that the suspect was allegedly involved in a scheme in which utility bills and newly acquired SIM cards were used through associates to facilitate bank accounts, after which ATM cards were collected for fraudulent transactions.

Anthony and the recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

Also on 22 September, SWAT officers arrested Peter Olanrewaju, 34, following information about a suspected cult-related gathering.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Adebayo Sodiq, 36, and the recovery of a pump-action rifle and two locally made pistols.

Police said investigations were continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearms and identify others who might be connected to the case.

In Ijebu-Ode, detectives from the area crime office recovered a Safira vehicle reportedly taken from its owner and arrested
Olatunji Olalekan following what police described as discreet investigation, intelligence gathering and tracking.

The vehicle has been secured as an exhibit while investigations continue.

The command also said eight vehicles were impounded on 26 September during a “no parking” operation around the Sagamu Interchange Bridge.

The vehicles were allegedly obstructing the highway and were removed to facilitate traffic flow and improve road safety.

The command said the affected vehicles would be processed for prosecution on 28 September, with similar enforcement operations to continue where necessary.

Ojajuni commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism and thanked members of the public for their cooperation.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to proactive policing and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information about security concerns.
