Nigeria’s Flamingos have dethroned Ghana to emerge as the new champions of the 2026 edition of the WAFU-B Under-17 Girls Cup.

The Flamingos made light work of Togo on Sunday morning in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, with a 4-0 victory to finish top of the standings with maximum points after five matches.

Nigeria took the lead in the fifteenth minute. Captain of the team, Chidera Harmony, converted from the spot after Kemi Adegbuyi was fouled in the penalty area.

Harmony doubled the advantage in the 5th minute from the same situation as the first, as the Togolese struggled to contain the trickery and pace of Kemi Adegbuyi.

The Flamingos went into the break with a comfortable lead, leaving their opponent to do the chasing in the second half.

Oluebube Umejiaku came off the bench to increase Nigeria’s lead seven minutes after the hour mark as the Flamingos took the game beyond the reach of the Togolese ladies.

Kemi Adegbuyi deservedly got on the score sheet with a minute left before the 90th as the Flamingos cruised to a 4-0 win to emerge as the new holders of the WAFU-B Under-17 Girls Cup.

The Flamingos will turn their attention to the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup slated for next month in Morocco.

Nigeria are grouped alongside defending champions, North Korea, Poland and Puerto Rico in Group B and will begin their campaign against Poland on October 17 in Salé.
