A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, has said President Bola Tinubu’s administration does not need paid social media influencers to showcase its achievements, insisting that its record should speak for itself.

Mumuni was reacting to the Federal Government’s plan to mobilise 4,000 social media influencers to promote infrastructure projects under the Tinubu administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the plan on Tuesday, September 22, in Abuja while receiving a report from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) following the students’ inspection of federal road projects in Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna and Sokoto states.

Umahi said the proposed influencer network would help the government communicate its infrastructure projects and achievements directly to Nigerians, particularly young people.

However, Mumuni, in a statement signed by his media aide, Rasheed Abubakar, on Sunday, argued that the administration’s economic reforms, institutional changes and infrastructure development should provide sufficient evidence of its performance without paid promotion.

“This government does not need influencers or paid voices to speak for it because the evidence is undeniable,” he said.

The APC chieftain said the administration had demonstrated courage in taking difficult decisions aimed at addressing the economic and institutional challenges it inherited.

He said the steps taken towards economic stabilisation, fiscal responsibility and institutional reforms were evidence of a government committed to long-term transformation.

“When this administration assumed office, we were teetering on the edge of an abyss, and our people were crying out in desperation. Yet, in these months, we have witnessed a government that refused to surrender to despair,” he said.

Mumuni added that Tinubu had chosen to address the country’s challenges rather than exploit them.

” President Tinubu did not shy away from difficult decisions, decisions that required courage, vision, and an unwavering commitment to our collective future. He inherited a broken system, yet he chose to heal it rather than exploit it,” he said.

Mumuni, an author and security expert, also defended the administration against criticisms over insecurity and economic hardship, arguing that the challenges predated Tinubu’s assumption of office.

He said the President inherited longstanding problems that required sustained efforts to resolve.

“Basically, we must understand that President Tinubu is not the architect of the crisis we are exiting. He inherited a house on fire and has been working tirelessly to extinguish the flames,” he said.

“The insecurity that plagues us, the hardships we endure, these are legacies of past mismanagement, not products of his governance.”

He maintained that the administration’s reforms would require time to deliver the desired results, urging Nigerians to consider the broader direction of government policies.

The APC chieftain called for continued support for Tinubu, saying another four-year term would enable the administration to complete its ongoing programmes.

“Four more years would allow this administration to complete the work it has begun,” he said.

Mumuni expressed optimism that continued implementation of the government’s policies could lead to improved security, economic stability and renewed public confidence.

“Imagine a Nigeria where security is restored, where economic dignity returns to our people, where hope is no longer a luxury but a birthright. This is possible under continued, tested leadership,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to look beyond criticism and remain confident in the country’s capacity for development.

“We must rise above cynicism and believe in our nation’s capacity for greatness. President Tinubu has proven his mettle. Now, we must give him the mandate to finish what he has started. Our nation’s future depends on it”, Mumuni said.
