Super Eagles forward Kelechi iheanacho has been named the best player in the Turkish 1. Lig after a blistering start to the 2026/2027 season since he arrived at Bursaspor.

The former Leicester City and Celtic forward has scored in every game since he joined the club with 11 goals and two assists in eight league matches.

Iheanacho scored in eight consecutive matches for Bursaspor as he matched Fernandao’s 2014/2015 record. He equalled the record scoring a brace in the 2-1 away at Batman Petrolspor before the international break.

In recognition of his brilliant start to the season, beIN 1. Lig moderator, alongside football commentator Turgay Keskin, awarded Iheanacho as the best player of the opening week matches of the season while also naming Bursaspor as the best team.

Kelechi Iheanacho has been on a renaissance since he joined the club after difficult spells at Sevilla and Middlesbrough during the 2024/2025 season.

The 29-year-old joined Glasgow’s Celtic last season and had a decent outing with nine goals in 24 matches and was instrumental in the domestic double.

Iheanacho’s form, coupled with Bursaspor’s, has made the club one of the early contenders to gain promotion to the Turkish Super Lig at the end of the season.

Bursaspor are equal on points -19 with league leaders Kayserispor but are second on the log with an inferior goal difference.

Iheanacho’s terrific form in front of goal has also earned him an invitation to the Super Eagles. Although Eric Chelle didn’t include him in the squad for the qualifiers, Iheanacho will get the chance to impress the manager in the friendly match against Russia on October 6.

Iheanacho last played for the Super Eagles during the 2025 Unity Cup, where Nigeria beat Jamaica on penalties to win the third edition of the cup.
