The North Central has scheduled a grand rally for October 10 in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital, as part of a coordinated grassroots mobilisation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The mobilisation programme, unveiled by North Central stakeholders and the region’s Grassroots Mobilisation Network, also includes medical outreaches, advocacy tours and town hall meetings across the six states and the Federal Capital Territory.
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yelwatda, disclosed this while addressing correspondents at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on Friday.
Yelwatda said the six governors, government appointees and other critical stakeholders in the region had resolved to mobilise support for Tinubu across the North Central.
“We agreed that overwhelmingly, the North Central would mobilise votes and overwhelmingly support Mr President as our candidate in the 2027 general election,” he said.
He said APC members and supporters from the six states would converge on Lafia for the October 10 rally to demonstrate their solidarity with the President.
Yelwatda also announced plans to constitute a reconciliation committee to address grievances within the party and consolidate support ahead of the 2027 election.
The SGF and Grand Patron of the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Network, Senator George Akume, said the network would complement the political mobilisation with grassroots advocacy and community-based initiatives.
Akume said the programme, developed by the National Coordinator of the network, Arch. Sonny Echono, and other stakeholders, had received the endorsement of the APC National Secretariat.
He said the network would conduct medical outreaches across the three senatorial districts of Benue State, covering eye screening and treatment, prescription of spectacles, cataract assessment and selected surgeries, as well as glaucoma and diabetic eye screening.
The network, he added, would embark on grassroots advocacy tours and town hall meetings covering the 19 senatorial districts across the six states and the FCT.
Yelwatda said the stakeholders would reconvene next week to finalise preparations for the Lafia rally and coordinate the wider mobilisation programme.
