Alli campaign condemns alleged attacks on APC candidates, urges Makinde, Adekanmbi to act

Senator Sharafadeen Alli

The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) has condemned what it described as alleged attacks on the wife of the Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Alhaja Tawakalitu Alli, and two other APC candidates in Ibadan.

The campaign organisation also urged Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, to act to prevent further violence during political campaigns in the state.

In a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, SSACO alleged that Mrs Alli was attacked during a medical outreach she organised at Ibikunle House, Ayeye, Ibadan, on Wednesday.

It also alleged that the campaign trains of the APC candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Aderemi Oseni, and the party’s candidate for Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, Folake Olunloyo-Oshinowo, were attacked during separate campaign events at Agbaje Market, Orita-Merin, and Idi-Arere, respectively.

The organisation described the alleged attacks as “unwarranted” and “barbaric”, saying they could drag Oyo State back to what it described as the era of political violence.

SSACO called on Makinde and Adekanmbi to rein in their supporters, insisting that APC candidates and their supporters had the right to associate, gather and campaign within the law.

“The SSACO calls on Governor Seyi Makinde who is the APM promoter in Oyo State, and the party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, to rein in on their hoodlums,” the statement said.

The organisation further called on security agencies to investigate the incidents, identify those responsible and bring them to justice.

It said the alleged attacks endangered the lives of political actors and residents, urging the authorities to ensure that political activities in the state were conducted peacefully.

SSACO also accused Makinde and Adekanmbi of sponsoring the alleged attacks, a claim that was contained in the statement but for which the organisation provided no independent evidence.

It, however, said no political ambition was worth the lives of citizens, and urged all political parties and their candidates to focus on issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“No amount of threats will deter the party from campaigning across Oyo State,” the organisation said, adding that APC candidates would continue to take their messages to the electorate.

The campaign organisation urged the governor, Adekanmbi and other political actors to present their programmes and policies to voters rather than resort to violence.

It also appealed to the relevant authorities to protect the right of all political parties and candidates to campaign peacefully across the state.
