Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will coordinate President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the FCT and Rivers State, signalling a cross-party mobilisation strategy involving stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Wike declared yesterday at a stakeholders’ meeting of the Rainbow Coalition in Abuja, where he urged members of both parties to set aside their political differences and work towards Tinubu’s re-election.
The minister, who described himself as the coordinator of the president’s re-election campaign in the two areas, said the coalition had agreed to support Tinubu as well as APC candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives in the FCT.
He said: “For the presidency, all of us have agreed that it is Tinubu. I am going to coordinate the FCT and Rivers State. So, you can imagine how important it is.”
“I am in charge of the FCT election. I am the commander of field operations as far as the FCT election is concerned.”
The meeting brought together APC and PDP stakeholders, including party chairmen, serving and former senators, National Assembly candidates and political leaders from the FCT’s six area councils.
In a significant indication of the coalition’s political direction, PDP National Assembly candidates at the gathering openly declared support for their APC counterparts, underscoring the effort to build a common front behind Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Wike said the arrangement was intended to establish a coordinated political structure ahead of the elections, irrespective of the parties to which the participating stakeholders might belong.
