Young 11 FA retain top spot as Nathaniel Idowu U-16 League enters seventh week

Nathaniel Idowu U-16 League

Young 11 FA, at the weekend, strengthened their position at the top of the table as the race for honours in the 2026 Nathaniel Idowu Under-16 Football League gathers momentum.

The latest round of matches at the New Maracana Sports Complex, Tolu, and the Nathaniel Idowu Football Pitch, Oregie, offered another reminder of the quality, passion and excitement that have become hallmarks of the competition.

With 23 goals scored across five matches, Week Six provided plenty of entertainment for spectators while reinforcing the league’s reputation as a platform for developing young football talents. Sponsored by the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation and organised by Peakline Sports World Limited under the leadership of Director-General McAnthony Anaelechukwu, the competition continues to nurture promising players and promote grassroots football development.

At the centre of the title race is Young 11 FA, whose disciplined approach and defensive solidity have set them apart from the rest of the field. Their 1-0 victory over Moore Wins Foundation FA may not have been the most dramatic result of the week, but it was another demonstration of the consistency that has carried them to the summit.

Raphael Atire’s 18th-minute strike proved enough to secure all three points, extending Young 11’s unbeaten run and taking their tally to 16 points from six matches. Just as impressive is their defensive record, having conceded only two goals all season.

While Young 11 continued their steady march, Atico FA produced the performance that captured most of the headlines. Their emphatic 9-0 victory over Seraphic FA was a breathtaking display of attacking football. Goals came from several players, but the outstanding performer was Olajuwon Ayomide, whose four-goal haul underlined his growing reputation as one of the league’s most exciting young talents. The victory strengthened Atico’s hold on fourth position and enhanced their credentials as serious contenders for a Super Four place.

Ajegunle United SC also enjoyed a productive outing, recording a comprehensive 4-0 win over Bright Star SA.

Peter Adoga led the charge with two goals, helping his side climb level on points with Atico FA.

Elsewhere, St Petersburg FA bounced back from a previous setback with a narrow 1-0 victory over Divinely Blessed FA, courtesy of Ohemu Goodluck’s decisive strike.

The most dramatic contest of the round unfolded between Fortune FA and SC Heritage.    In a match filled with intensity and attacking flair, both teams settled for a 2-2 draw.

Fortune appeared on course to lose ground in the title chase before Akinola Olajide struck late to rescue a valuable point. Although the draw kept Fortune in second place on 13 points, it also ensured SC Heritage remained firmly in contention in third with 11 points.

As the league approaches a crucial stage, the battle for places in the Super Four, scheduled for November 7, 2026, is beginning to take shape. Young 11 FA remain the team to beat, but with Fortune FA, SC Heritage, Atico FA and Ajegunle United SC all pressing their claims, the weeks ahead promise even more drama in what is fast becoming a compelling showcase of Nigeria’s emerging football talent.
