The Governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has warned that omission of his name on the final list of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could threaten peace and stability in Kano.
According to Gwarzo, exclusion of his name and the running mate Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso despite the formal complaint to INEC has generated considerable confusion among supporters in the state.
In a letter dated 16th October, 2016, addressed to INEC Chairman, the NDC gubernatorial candidate warned that the persistent refusal to reinstate their names without lawful resolution could threaten respect for the rule of law.
” For the avoidance of doubt, my running mate and I have fulfilled the applicable INEC requirements, guidelines and timelines for our nomination. We therefore consider our omission a matter requiring urgent correction in accordance with the law and established electoral procedures.
“The continued exclusion of our names, despite the formal complaint already lodged, has generated considerable confusion among supporters, party members and stakeholders across Kano State. The absence of a timely resolution risks deepening public frustration and undermining confidence in the electoral process.
“If this situation persists without a lawful and credible resolution, it could threaten respect for the rule of law and create avoidable tension with serious implications for peace and stability in Kano State”. Gwarzo warned.
In a document published on INEC’s website on Saturday, Gwarzo and Kwankwaso’s names were missing. The former deputy governor and a close ally of Kwankwasiyya leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was left missing.
Gwarzo emerged as the NDC’s consensus governorship candidate alongside Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former commissioner for youth in Kano State and eldest son of Kwankwaso.
The duo were reportedly nominated by Kwankwasiyya leader and the NDC’s presidential running mate for the 2027 election, to challenge the ruling APC in Kano.
Meanwhile, the NDC has petitioned INEC over alleged fraudulent acts against its staff Hauwa Buhari Buhari, the Head of Department, Election and Party Monitoring of Kano office.
In a petition dated 16th October, 2026 signed by CHAMBERS, a legal firm on behalf of the NDC alleged that the INEC staff issued several variations of a report concerning the NDC primary election, believed to inconsistent with the outcome of her primary.
According to the petition, “The said reports falsely listed persons who were not candidates of the NDC and who never participated in the primary election, while excluding the authentic candidates duly nominated by our client. The reports also failed to state the date on which the NDC Kano State primary“.
Gwarzo, and his running mate, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, were conspicuously missing from the final list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
