Ahead of the 2027 poll, the eldest son of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Mustapha, has emerged as the governorship running mate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State.
Spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Habibu Mohammad, confirmed the development, stating that Mustapha was unveiled yesterday to run alongside another close associate of Kwankwaso, Comrade Aminu Gwarzo, in next year’s general election.
Mustapha Kwankwaso was Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Governor Abba Yusuf’s cabinet but resigned alongside three other commissioners following the political realignment that took the governor to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Like Mustapha, Gwarzo also resigned his position as deputy to Governor Yusuf after the House of Assembly mounted impeachment pressure.
However, Gwarzo has insisted that his resignation was prompted by personal reasons.
Nevertheless, the Kwankwasiyya Movement under the leadership of former Governor Kwankwaso has vowed to take over power from the ruling APC following the incumbent governor’s defection to the APC.
