The Director General Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Olalekan Fadolap, has stressed need to celebrate practitioners that have observed professionalism, ethical conduct and regulatory compliance in the industry.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the ARCON Special Recognition Awards (ASRA) held in Lagos recently, he observed recognition of excellence is not merely about celebrating past achievements; but also encouraging greater commitment to the values and standards that will shape the future of the industry.
Themed, ‘An evening of many honours,’ Fadolapo added, “I encourage everyone to reflect on the importance of professionalism, innovation, ethical practice and continuous improvement across the advertising sector.”
In his speech, the Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris said ARCON is more than a regulatory body, but custodian of public trust, ethical integrity and standardisation.
Represented by Permanent Secretary of the ministry Binyerem Ukaire, he added ARCON is transforming the industry by curbing misleading narratives, protecting consumer rights and providing a level playing field for creative enterprise.’
To him, “the successes we celebrate tonight are proof of what is possible when policy and regulation match hand in hand.”
To all the awardees, your accomplishments raise the bar for professional excellence. Let this recognition fuel your commitment to building a more disciplined, vibrant and value- driven advertising industry.”
Speaking in a similar vein, Chairman Advertising Standards Panel (ASP), Emmanuel Agu, said, “compliance promotes consumer confidence, protects brand reputation, fosters fair competition, and strengthens the integrity of our industry. It ensures that advertising remains truthful, decent, responsible, and aligned with societal values.”
He added the recognition is therefore not just about rewarding those who have complied with established standards, but also about celebrating organisations that have chosen to lead by example, demonstrating that creativity and innovation thrive best within a framework of responsibility and ethical conduct.
