National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has stepped up its crackdown on illegal National Identity Number (NIN) enrolment, unauthorised data modification, and extortion, arresting several suspects and seizing illegal enrolment equipment during a recent enforcement operation in Gwagwalada, Abuja, and other locations.
NIMC said the operation, carried out through its Inspectorate Compliance and Enforcement Unit (ICEU), reflected its commitment to ending unauthorised enrolment activities and unethical practices, thereby protecting the integrity, security and credibility of Nigeria’s National Identity Management System.
Insisting that NIN enrolment can only be done at any of its approved centres, while data modification can be done via self-service modification.nimcgov.ng, NIMC noted that many of the problems people face with their NIN stem from bypassing official enrolment procedures.
Meanwhile, the agency’s Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has reiterated the commission’s zero tolerance for extortion and unethical conduct, assuring NIMC’s commitment to providing seamless, hitch-free NIN enrolment for Nigerians and legal residents.
In a statement yesterday by the Head of Corporate Communications, Dr Kayode Adegoke, the agency urged all NIN applicants and holders to use only NIMC-approved channels for enrolment and related services.
