The Nasarawa Youth Support Group has faulted the Nasarawa State Government for linking former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, to the disruption of activities during Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s visit to Lafia on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The group described the allegation as unfortunate, misleading, and politically motivated, arguing that publicly circulating video footage of the incident raised questions about the government’s claims.
In a statement, the group said the footage showed some youths allegedly involved in the disruption waving All Progressives Congress (APC) flags and participating in the event. It questioned the basis for associating Adamu and his supporters with the incident, insisting that the former police chief was not identified in the footage as being involved in the disruption.
The group challenged the state government to explain how it reached its conclusion linking Adamu to the incident, despite what it described as video evidence pointing in a different direction. It also expressed concern that the government would make serious allegations against a governorship candidate without presenting credible evidence to substantiate them.
According to the group, Adamu’s campaign has remained peaceful and issue-driven, focusing on practical solutions to the challenges facing Nasarawa State. It said the former IGP had consistently engaged residents respectfully without resorting to insults, inflammatory rhetoric or attacks on political opponents.
The group maintained that there had been no reported incidents of violence or disruption associated with his campaign activities, adding that his political engagements had focused on dialogue, peaceful participation and presenting an alternative for the state’s development.
“We therefore reject any attempt to associate Adamu or his supporters with the alleged disruption of the Vice-President’s visit without credible evidence,” the statement said.
While calling for a thorough investigation, the group urged security agencies to ensure that the process remained impartial, professional and guided by facts rather than political considerations. It specifically called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to establish the identities and affiliations of those involved before drawing conclusions about their sponsors or political loyalties. The group also urged the Nasarawa State Government to exercise restraint and avoid using its position to cast aspersions on political opponents or create unnecessary tension in the state.
It said the state deserved a political campaign focused on development, public welfare and policy issues rather than unsubstantiated allegations and political distractions. The group reaffirmed Adamu’s commitment to a peaceful and issue-driven campaign, urging political actors and their supporters to uphold democratic values and conduct themselves with dignity.
