Falsified, expired drugs and other regulated products worth over four hundred million Naira was yesterday set ablaze by the National Agency for Food, Drug and Administration and control (NAFDAC) in Nasarawa.

Speaking at the dump site in Lafia, Director General, Mojisola Adeyeye, who was represented by Direct of special duty, Jimoh Abubakar said the exercise is part of the agencies move to stop the circulation and consumption of fake, expired and unregistered regulated products.

He also stated that some of the items included the ones voluntarily handed over by compliant companies, NGOs, trade Unions, pharmaceuticals and patent medicine dealers.

Governor Tanko Almakura, represented by the commissioner of Lands, Hajiyah Halima Jibri thanked the agency for not relenting and urged them to work harder to ensure expired food products are not in the market.

Zonal director, Abayomi Bolaji stated that one of the major challenges confronting them is insecurity and inadequate manpower and utility resources but called on members of the public to check consumable products and ensure they have NAFDAC number and date manufactured and expiring before paying.

She also urged the public to feel free and visit the agency’s offices across the state to report any fake, unregistered and expire consumables and would be treated with confidence.
