About 500 students across 10 public schools in Lagos State are expected to undergo training on creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Convener, STEAM Fun Fest, Titi Adewusi, said the project aligned with its commitment to sustainable social investment and youth development. She said the aim is to improve students’ problem-solving skills and prepare them for the future of work.

According to her, critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity and collaboration are the important skills of the future and Project iCommunity gives children opportunities to hone their skills. She said out of the 500 students, 10 students would be selected from each school to present their school’s solution to a panel of judges at the STEAM competition pitch day.

The training is organised by Texaco Nigeria Outer Shelf Limited (TNOS), a Chevron company, in partnership with the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Fun Fest team, STEAM UP Lagos and the Lagos State Ministry of Education District III through the Project Community.

Abiola Adebola, who represented the Lagos State Education District Three, expressed the Lagos State Ministry of Education’s delight in the partnership. She said the project aligned with the ministry’s vision of providing quality education and preparing students for the challenges of the 21st century.

“We believe that Project iCommunity will help to develop problem-solving skills, creativity and critical thinking in our students,” she said.

During the training of teachers and onboarding of schools, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Education, Dr. Tola Salau, reiterated the teachers’ full commitment to ensure the success of the project.
