The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has reaffirmed Shehu Mohammed as its National President, putting to rest speculation surrounding his leadership.

In a statement, the Secretary-General of the union, Joshua Apebo, explained that Mohammed was elected during the 5th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference held on August 12, 2024, at the Airport Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.

The election came after the previous Central Working Committee (CWC) completed its term on July 29, 2024. The former committee had been in office since July 29, 2020, following its election at the 4th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja.

The Union recalled that on 9th July 2024, the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) while delivering judgment in suit: NICN/ABJ/214/2022 held that Innocent Bola-Audu should complete his tenure by 29th July 2024 having been elected as National President of the union on 29th July 2020 and that he should be compensated with N3 million for his legal expenses.

It noted that Hon. Justice Oyewumi Oyejoju’s court ruling directed that the claimant be reinstated as National President, effective April 2023, and entitled to all benefits and privileges of the office until the completion of his tenure on July 29, 2024.

The judgment stressed the importance of the ASCSN’s adherence to legal decisions. In response to the court’s directive, ASCSN leadership is set to address the compensation for Bola-Audu as part of an out-of-court settlement.

The ASCSN reassured its members of its dedication to operating within the constitution of the union and the labour laws of Nigeria.

“We want to assure our members that as a law-abiding trade union, we are committed to operating within the ambit of our constitution and the labour laws of Nigeria,” the statement read.
