LASTMA begins in-house training for senior officers

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA)

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has commenced a structured in-house training programme for its senior officers.

The training focuses on emotional management, professional etiquette, and time management as part of efforts to strengthen operational efficiency and service delivery.

The initiative is designed to reinforce discipline within the agency and improve officers’ engagement with the public, particularly in high-pressure traffic situations across Lagos.

According to the agency, the training will equip participants with emotional intelligence skills, enabling them to manage stress and respond calmly on duty. It also emphasises professional conduct, including adherence to procedures, respectful communication, and maintenance of the agency’s institutional image.

Participants are being guided on how to handle interactions with motorists and other road users with patience and tact, especially in challenging circumstances that require composure and professionalism.

A key component of the programme is time management, with officers trained to prioritise tasks, improve productivity, and ensure the efficient deployment of resources in a city where traffic conditions are often unpredictable.

Speaking on the initiative, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the training reflects the agency’s commitment to professionalism and effective public service.

“The success of the Authority depends largely on the discipline, professionalism and emotional stability of its personnel. Beyond traffic control, officers must uphold high standards that build public trust and strengthen institutional credibility,” he said.

He added that the programme is expected to promote punctuality, accountability and an organised workflow among senior officers, who are expected to lead by example within the organisation.

The training also includes practical sessions and case studies to help officers understand the impact of poor time management and unprofessional conduct, while encouraging the adoption of best practices.

LASTMA said the capacity-building effort aligns with global standards in public administration and traffic management and is expected to enhance coordination, improve public interaction and strengthen internal discipline.
