Centre warns FRSC against sidelining PwDs in recruitments
Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) has warned the Federal Road Safety Commission FRSC, against sidelining persons with disabilities (PwDs) in its current recruitment exercise.
The centre threatened to drag the commission to court for non-compliance to the provisions of the extant law and President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive on such matters.
CCD Executive Director, David Anyaele in a statement, said that not employing PWDs would amount to “clear violation of sections 28 (1) and (29) of the Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018, which provides that a person with a disability has the right to work on an equal basis, with others, constituting at least five per cent of their employment.”
He said CCD would monitor the recruitment exercise with the view to ascertaining the level of compliance to the law and president’s directive, adding “the discrimination with impunity against Nigerians with disabilities by the FRSC in its July 13, 2021 recruitment advertorial is a confirmation that institutions are the key drivers of discrimination against persons with disabilities. There is still ability even in disability,” he said.
