As business owners strive to be successful, the need for them to ensure business sustainability has been emphasized.

Experts said with the International Standards Organisation (ISO) 9001 Management System, which provides guidance to those seeking to achieve success in their business; there is the need to establish an appropriate management framework to be successful in the journey of business.

They canvassed the ISO 9001 management system certification, which not only enables business owners to determine the business environment and operate the processes for consistent quality service, but also helpful for successful implementation of sustainability practices.

Speaking on, “Effecting a turnaround in your operations,” management expert, Olufemi Kolawale, during NECA’s Global Certification Limited (NGCL), in collaboration with the Bank of Industry (BoI), said as a business owner, one must be innovative.
He advised participants to update their skills on the use of technology to run their business seamlessly.

Kolawole said this at a one-day awareness Quality Management System (QMS) awareness training to sensitise Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs), on instituting standardisation for continuous improvement in their operations.

The Chief Executive Officer, NGCL, Celine Oni, noted that beyond starting a business, the growth and sustainability of the enterprise is also very important.

She maintained that lack of knowledge about business management skills, poor processes, and non-standardised practices have forced many businesses go moribund.

For businesses, she noted that the NGCL certification such as ISO QMS 9001:2015 is evidence of quality assurance and confirmation that business operations not only meet customer requirements, but also conform to specific international standards.

While appreciating BoI for the partnership, she said the initiative would position businesses better for profitability and long term sustainability.

In a presentation by the Group CIO, Chellaram Group, Dr. Harbhajan Batth, “Business sustainability for enterprises through certification,” he stressed the importance of running industries on good ethical practice, which needs to be improved all the time to avoid collapse.

He cited how his firm was able to operate competitively above 92% on standards.
