Group’s podcast to spotlight workers’ welfare, minimum wage, job creation

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)

The Working People United (WoPU) has launched a podcast platform to promote public discussion on workers’ welfare, minimum wage implementation, job creation, and industrial relations, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The initiative provided a platform for labour leaders, policymakers, employers and citizens to discuss issues affecting Nigerian workers, including economic reforms, taxation, healthcare, education and social protection.

Speaking at the commissioning of the podcast studio, WoPU’s National Coordinator-General, Williams Akporeha, said the initiative would bridge the gap between government, workers, and the wider public through informed discussions on policy and national development.

He said the platform would prioritise substantive policy engagement over political rhetoric, with conversations focusing on the challenges, expectations and aspirations of workers and other citizens.

Akporeha said the podcast would host labour leaders, policymakers, business executives, entrepreneurs, civil society representatives and ordinary Nigerians to encourage broader participation in discussions on workers’ welfare and national development.

He identified minimum wage implementation, employment generation, and industrial relations as issues the platform would address, alongside government policies and economic reforms affecting workers and households.
