Idem, pride to National Assembly, says Wase
• As lawmaker empowers 1,500 constituents in Akwa Ibom
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase has described the member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Unyime Idem as a prized asset to the National Assembly, who continually seeks the development of his constituency, Akwa Ibom and Nigeria.
Wase said this during the 2021 constituency briefing and empowerment of 1,500 constituents organised by Idem at the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Empowerment Centre, recently.
Wase, who led the Majority Leader of the House, Hassan Doguwa, Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu and over 30 other federal lawmakers to the event, said: “We thank God for giving us a great colleague in Idem, who has contributed to the success of the current National Assembly.
“ Today, you can see lawmakers from six geo-political zones of this country at this event. That is to tell you that Idem is a good team player. I appeal to you to give him more support so that one day, Idem will climb to where we are. Nigeria needs him, and his very timely motions and bills.”
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, who was represented by the Chairman, Akwa Ibom Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Okon Okon commended Idem for keeping to his campaign promise and offering effective representation on the floor of the House, not just for Ukanafun and Oruk Anam but also for the entire state.
He congratulated the beneficiaries of the empowerment items and urged them to make good use of them in order to create wealth.
Earlier in his welcome address, Idem, who is also the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Communications, said he remained committed to his promise of empowering 5,000 constituents with skills and items for job and wealth creation.
He said in the last 30 months he has sponsored 16 bills, moved 16 motions and embarked on 44 life-touching projects within the federal constituency and promised to do more in the years to come.
In their goodwill messages, Senator Bassey Albert, Doguwa, Elumelu all commended Idem on his achievements, as a lawmaker and creating impact in his constituency with his empowerment programmes.
They called for support for the lawmaker in order to do more for Ukanafun/Oruk Anam, Akwa Ibom and Nigeria in general.
The highpoints of the event were the commissioning of a 1000 seater Agric development centre as well as an entrepreneurial centre in Ukanafun, while a state of the art skills acquisition centre was commissioned in Oruk Anam.
Meanwhile items distributed to beneficiaries include cars, buses, motorcycles, sewing machines, grinding machines, generators, business grants to women and youths, bursary for students and support funds for the disabled among others.
