NGO empowers 100 girls with skills

To enable students make informed and responsible life choices, a non-governmental organisation, HACEY Health Initiative, recently held a career and mentorship training for girls.
 
The training had 100 girls visit some companies, such as Johnson and Johnson, Stag Engineering, Havana, Banwo & Ighodalo and Nensis Engineering to be enlightened on specific characteristics of preferred career, requirements, and available career opportunities. 10 of the girls were inducted into the HACEY girls’ advisory board.
 
Also, a 14-year-old, Miss Lawal Kasmot, emerged winner in the NGO’s inter-school girl-child essay competition titled ‘The role of the Nigerian Government and society in achieving gender equality.’

From the entries, Kasmot, the winner of the competition went home with a cheque of N50, 000, a brand new laptop, a certificate and plaque for her school,  Ayodele Susan-Mary, emerged as first runner up with N30, 000, while Somayina Osakwem emerged second runner-up and went home with N20, 000.
 
Prior to these activities, HACEY had engaged students in a safe space workshop on leadership and health sensitisation across states.
 
The project reached over 200, 000 young girls with information on health and leadership, thereby amplifying their voices in the society, creating a healthy and productive environment for them.
