NIA gets new DG, others to drive industry growth
The Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA) has announced the appointment of Yetunde Ilori as its new Director General while the Managing Director of NEM Insurance Plc, Tope Smart, is Deputy Chairman.
Unveiling the new appointees to journalists in Lagos, the outgoing Chairman of NIA, Eddie Efekoha, said Ilori’s appointment was widely accepted and approved at the Council meeting, giving her vast knowledge and contributions at various levels in the industry.
Others appointed by the Council are: the Managing Director of Cornerstone Insurance Plc, Ganiyu Musa, Honourary Treasurer; and Managing Director, Standard Alliance Insurance Plc, Bode Akinboye as Assistant Honourary Treasurer.
He said their appointments would be ratified at the Association’s next Annual General Meeting (AGM). Ilori has worked in various capacities in the insurance industry, and before her appointment was the former Managing Director of AXA Mansard Insurance, where she worked until July 17, 2017 when she retired.
Speaking on her plans for the industry, Ilori, who will be the first female to be appointed NIA director general, said she would build on her predecessor’s achievements.
She listed professionalism and insurance awareness as some of her plans for the industry, and promised to build a formidable relationship with the insurance regulator and other agencies of insurance bodies.
