The Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) will on Thursday, July 14, hold its 2016 Distinguished Management Lecture series, in Lagos.

The institute’s President and Chairman of Council, Prof. Munzali Jibril, said the theme of the lecture is “Nigeria: The leadership question and the challenges ahead”.

Describing ineffective leadership as the bane of the nation’s development since independence, Jibril pointed out that the theme of the lecture was chosen because “more than ever, Nigeria needs urgent solution to the many leadership challenges besetting it, which are now threatening the nation’s corporate existence.

“The institute, which believes in supporting government in finding solutions to the problems of governance is therefore, using the opportunity provided by this forum to contribute its quota to proffering viable and workable roadmap to the leadership question”, he added.
However, he noted that a speech on the aforementioned theme would be delivered by a renowned public affairs analyst, the Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of ICON Stockbrokers Ltd and a former President of Institute of Directors, Nigeria, Chike Nwanze.

Speaking further, Jibril described the annual lecture as one of the Institute’s contributions to nation building, adding that the distinguished management lecture has always provided a platform for the Institute to brainstorm on a burning and contemporary leadership and management issue of national importance and suggest a way forward.

He stressed that the Institute believes that as it is usual with the tradition of the lecture, the guest speaker, Nwanze, will in addressing the theme of the lecture throw up enough issues that will set the tone for an interactive discourse.

“At the end of the day, the ensuing brainstorming session is expected to bring out salient issues in governance that will aid government in achieving its change agenda and development blueprint for the nation aimed at making Nigeria great again,” he said.
