NIM seeks more involvement in govt programmes

The Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) chartered has called for the involvement of the institute in various government policies, programmes, and initiatives.

This, the body said, would help strengthen the institute’s reputation and ensure its inclusion in relevant government processes and discussions.

NIM President and Chairman of Council, Dr Christiana Atako, made the call during a visit of the institute to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, recently.

According to her, it has been the tradition of the Federal Government to consult the institute on critical national issues for input.

She said most ad-hoc committees set up by the Federal Government in the past made the institute’s participation visible with the President and Chairman of the Council nominating the right persons, including drafting white papers on behalf of the Federal Government on critical national issues.

As part of the arrangement, she demanded that the institute could be invited to the monthly dialogue between the Federal Government and professional bodies on the state of the nation’s economy.

She maintained that the institute can contribute meaningfully to policy discussions and roadmaps that would help move the nation on the path of progress and development.

“As you are aware, the institute is strategically positioned to make input to matters related to management, leadership and organisational development. This can be achieved by providing insights and recommendations that will inform policy formulation and implementation within the government. The institute’s expertise can be sought during policy discussions by ensuring that the institute’s representatives are included in relevant committees or working groups.

“It would be appreciated if you facilitate collaborations and partnerships between the institute and other government agencies, ministries, or departments by linking it to relevant government bodies that can benefit from the institute’s expertise and resources. This can lead to joint initiatives, knowledge sharing and resource mobilisation.

“We solicit that you support and encourage the institute’s research efforts and publications that could inform government policies and practices in the field of management and administration. This will ultimately provide avenues for the dissemination of research findings and support the application of research outcomes in government decision-making processes,” she said.

Responding, the SGF stated that his membership in the institute had assisted him a lot in his career as a public servant.

He, therefore, promised to ensure that the capacity-building programmes of the institute are patronised by ministries, departments and agencies of the Federal Government.
