Organisations urged to leverage data science for credible people outcomes

Organisations have been urged to leverage data science to drive credible people outcomes and align people strategies with organisational goals.

Human Resource experts said this is pertinent to be at par, especially with today’s realities bothering on challenges of volatile and uncertain globalisation; war of talent; digitalisation and technological advancement (AI) as well as employee and industrial relations.

Country Chair/Managing Director, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, Osagie Okunbor, advised the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM) Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO)/Human Resource Directors (HRD) forum, where he spoke on ‘Rethinking the Role of HR: A CEO’s Perspective’.

He said how HR is evolving and beyond, demands a high level of innovation and disruption from organisations.

In rethinking HR, Okunbor said there is a need to rethink organisational culture and leadership, push boundaries to power organisational agility, elevate HR decision science, unleash digitalisation, prioritise inclusion and embrace perpetual work reinvention.

He listed a CEO’s dilemma, which he said bothers on “How do I retain critical talent? How do we leverage digitalisation? What growth opportunities can we harness? How do I remain competitive, profitable and sustainable? How is my business ecosystem changing?

In his remark, President and Chairman of the Governing Council, CIPM, Olusegun Mojeed, said the forum was put together to connect with business owners and leaders who employ people.

“As the leading people management institute, our core function does not end with just engaging our members and providing the required professional support, but also connecting with people managers across board especially those who may not necessarily be HR professionals.

“This was put together to bring these very important stakeholders together to listen to their pain points, share experiences, and generally have rich conversations that are practicable in charting the course of developing our people and our organisations,” he said.
