Provost tasks government on professional counseling


Individuals, organizations and government have charged to embrace counseling skills to manage people for a productive and sane society. Provost of Institute of Counseling Nigeria [ICN] Dr Tolulope Oko-Igaire made the remark at the institute orientation day in Ikoyi Lagos.

According to her, there are several reports lately on mental health, depression and suicide incidences, which are unhealthy and not palatable. We all need service of professional counselors to cater for our emotional feeling, pains and negative traits, however even counselors need other counselors to counsel them too.

She pointed out that the Nigeria needs a lot of professional counselors to cater for of all spheres of life, because people who are grieved, teenagers, families, singles, children among others all need different counselors to address their plights or challenges. According to her, the human resources departments in organizations have gone beyond recruitment; they should come get advanced professional counseling skills to manage their employees, employers and larger society.

She revealed that several years ago, looking for profession counselor in Nigeria, it was difficult, expect one has to go abroad to study advance professional counseling courses; however, recently we now have access to social media and the institute today. Institute of Counseling Nigeria [ICN] is first of its kind where you can acquire advance professional certificate as a clinical counselor and psychotherapist with less stress. The institute has a wide- range of counseling and other related courses.”
