Transcorp Power Plc has appointed Maryam Bala Shehu as an Independent Non-Executive Director to its Board, effective September 1, 2026.

The power generation company said the appointment would be presented for ratification at its next Annual General Meeting.

Shehu brings nearly three decades of experience in the energy sector, including more than 20 years in senior leadership roles within TotalEnergies E&P subsidiaries in Nigeria and a secondment to Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG).

Her career at TotalEnergies included leadership responsibilities across finance, economics, gas commercial operations and enterprise administration.

She subsequently served as General Manager, Deepwater Administration and Deputy General Manager, Gas Commercial.

Shehu also has board and corporate governance experience, having served as a Board Member and Alternate Board Member of the Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria (GACN).

Her professional experience also includes finance and audit oversight through advisory committee roles within the NLNG Group and Brass LNG entities.

Commenting on the appointment, Chairman of the Board of Transcorp Power Plc, Emmanuel N. Nnorom, said Shehu’s experience in the Nigerian energy industry would strengthen the company’s Board.

Shehu is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the Energy Institute, United Kingdom, and the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators.

She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Directors, Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, Nigerian Institute of Management, and Nigerian Institute of Training and Development.

Shehu holds a Master of Business Administration from IESE Business School, University of Navarra, Spain, in partnership with Lagos Business School, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

She has also completed executive and postgraduate programmes at Stanford University and Middlesex University.

Transcorp Power said the appointment was part of efforts to strengthen the Board’s governance, energy-sector and commercial expertise as the company expands its power generation operations.

Transcorp Power is a subsidiary of Transnational Corporation Plc (Transcorp Group) and operates within Nigeria’s electricity generation sector.
