Presidential aspirant, Peter Obi is expected to attend the Ugosimba women and children empowerment initiative scheduled for October 30, in Lagos.
President and founder, of Ugosimba, Lady Jacinta Nwaeto, said since she, her husband and some friends had continued to pull the foundation all through the 18 years it was created; it was time to draw the attention of the public for the foundation to wax stronger.
Nwaeto, whose mandate is primarily to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in society, said: “This initiative is a call of God on my life and that is why I take it very seriously. Instead of saying things have become so hard and I can’t continue, I decided to inaugurate it today to bring it to the public attention and solicit for more funds to be able to continue the work, as well as to also appreciate those that have stood by me all these years.”
She revealed her plans to begin intensive training in skills acquisition so that more people will be able to stand on their own. “I am always very happy when I check on those that have received help and have grown as a result of it.
“I have been to many orphanages, including Amuwo-Odofin Mother and Child Hospital and was able to pay bills for many people, Nteje Anambra Mental Home and Okija Leprosy Home, among others, where we took food items there worth thousands of naira. I have given scholarships to two people to attend the school of nursing and today they are practising. I have given milling machines to many women, hair dryers and sewing machines as well as cash for start-ups. I have sponsored the wedding of 20 couples before, all in a bid to put smiles on their faces, ” Nwaeto added.
According to her, “I have this empowerment event three times a year and as I do always, I shall be giving out foodstuffs like a quarter bag of rice, a quarter bag of garri, one carton of indomie and one litre of vegetable oil to each of the 150 beneficiaries I will be expecting.”
Nawaeto said her selection method is random. According to her, “ I go to markets and ask the leader there to select women that are struggling with their businesses as a result of funds, I also ask leaders of meetings to select for me women that really need this kind of help and most times, as I am driving on the road, I can just stop when I spot women that are selling minor things under the sun or in traffic, and I ask them if they needed the kind of help the foundation offers.”
