EDOFEST: Edo set to unveil locations, showcase stolen original artefacts, others

Ososo Carnival set to hold 8 edition in Akoko-Edo
Activities lined up to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Edo state and its people have been outlined as the Edo State Government is set to host the 2018 Festival of Arts and Culture in the State (EDOFEST).

Also, all is now set for the 8th edition of the Ososo Carnival , a cultural event held annually to showcase the cultural heritage, tradition and tourism potentials of Ososo in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.

Ososo Carnival is a package of leisure events which will feature, street dance, parade of costumes, arena based performances, beauty pageant, musical funfare, cultural display, arts and fashion exhibition, and sporting activities among others.

President of the Ososo Carnival Initiative, Moses Teo Ajayi, disclosed this to journalists in Benin city yesterday during the unveiling of the Ososo Carnival Logo where he said the theme of the Carnival is “Celebrating Unity for Community Development.”

Ajayi added that the Ososo Carnival which is a 6 days event seeks to,” contribute to a long value chain that creates jobs, provides livelihoods, empowers local communities and ultimately brings in new opportunities for a better future.”

Edo State Commissioner of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, Osazee Osemwengie Ero, who told the Guardian ahead of activities of the Edo Festival with the theme,”Harnessing Arts and Culture for Sustainable Economic Development.”, said the event is scheduled to hold in December in Benin city, the Edo state capital.

Ero, said activities lined up for the EDOFEST include, Carnival parade of the 18 Local Government Areas of Edo State, Photo Exhibition of the stolen original artifacts at their locations across the world among others.

According to Ero, “the 2018 EDOFEST is expected to attract a very large array of visitors from within and outside the shores of Nigeria and will present an opportunity to showcase our rich cultural heritage, tourism assets, create patronage for the hospitality and transportation sectors.”
